Israel Guarda completed the degree in History and Archaeology at the Universidade Nova de Lisboa working in this field until 2003. His interest in urban history and local history directed him to the MA in Art History, in this University, finished in 2006, where he sought to analyse the continuity and change of Lisbon city growth. In parallel to his PhD, completed in 2016, he worked as a researcher in the Art History Institute of UNL, seeking to integrate spatial analysis within the humanities, using space syntax and GIS. He is now a researcher at CRIA/ISCTE-IUL.
